Wildfire Season

Wildfires in New Mexico can be a severe threat. Not just to our lands, but our homes. On Wednesday, the Ojo de los Casos fire wildfire started just an hour East of Albuquerque, burning over 90 acres. As of Thursday evening, no homes or businesses were affected by the fire, but this is not always the case. According to the National Fire Protection Association, in 2018, more than 25,000 structures were destroyed, including 18,137 residences and 229 commercial structures. Did you know that when you have fire damage to your home, you also have smoke odor, water damage, which could then lead to mold issues? Restoration companies like SERVPRO® of Rio Rancho and Sandoval County are equipped to help residents during these times.
With how dry New Mexico is this summer due to the uneventful monsoon season, wildfires are more of a threat this year than in the past. Just look at the weather report for the upcoming week, with numbers in the triple digits, it’s going to be hot, hot and dry. So during this summer season, let us all just take extra caution to help prevent the risk of loss, whether it is of buildings or our forests.
