Apartment Fire Damange

Who loves to burn candles in your home? Did you know how quickly a fire could start with an unwatched candle? We were recently called out to an apartment complex in Hobbs, NM, for a fire and now water loss. The fire was started by candle set too close to the curtains. Thankfully, everyone got out of the complex in time, and no one was hurt. Unfortunately, there is fire damage to the window and smoke damage to the entire unit. This was a 3-bedroom townhouse, so there was plenty of space for the smoke to go. And, yes, even though we are based in the Albuquerque/Rio Rancho metro area, we will travel the state to take care of our customers. In the case of this fire, there was a second unit damaged from the water that leaked through the walls. These were newer apartment complexes that had sprinkler systems installed throughout the unit, so that prevented the fire from spreading further. There were two other units connected, so this could have been a lot worse, there could have been more damage. So the next time you go to light your favorite candle, make sure you keep an eye on it, place it away from other flammable items, and do not leave it unattended.
