The Advantages of Hiring SERVPRO® To Repair Your Water Damaged Rio Rancho Home

9/29/2023 (Permalink)

Save Your Flooring and Wall Structure From Water Damage

Imagine having a beautiful home that was struck by a leaky roof, rain, bad plumbing, or laundry gone wrong. When water hits the foundation, it brings a ripple of madness to your home. Water damage can seep through the carpets, walls, and floors. If left unmanaged, It can decrease the value of your real estate.

The most challenging part about restoring water damage in Rio Rancho is saving your walls. The walls are very delicate, and a slight spill of water can ruin its infrastructure and cause it to crack. When water dries up, it can cause your walls to weaken, rot, or fall apart. However, thorough removal of water from your walls often requires advanced technology and experience.

It is essential to move quickly by calling SERVPRO technicians to your residential area to assess the situation. Once these techs arrive, they can immediately begin the mitigation process to reduce the damage. They can identify the category and classification to ensure that the restoration process follows the industry guidelines. They can examine the walls for potential destruction and remove and replace the walls if it is unsalvageable. They can also check other areas of the house like the carpet pad to see if it needs to be removed or not. This step is crucial to ensure that the subflooring is well-protected.

The technicians can utilize their expertise and inspect the extent of moisture in the flooring, subflooring, and the walls. They can use the extractor, which is a state-of-the-art tool that can help clean the carpets and floors. The equipment is portable so it can cover a vast infrastructure and is powerful enough to extract a tremendous amount of water from your floor and carpet. Once the SERVPRO techs have completed their job, they can walk you through your entire house to make sure that you're satisfied with the work.

Having a company that can coordinate the whole process from start to finish to make your life easier and gets you back in your home or business faster. “Like it never even happened.”

Why the cold shoulder 2021?

2/16/2021 (Permalink)

Here to help

The weather we are experiencing this week is crazy, not just here but across the nation. I remember checking the temperature Sunday and reading that it was going to feel like -9 degrees. Seriously!? Did 2020 not bring enough chaos? 2021 really needed to start the year off this way? I feel like 2021 is trying to give us the “cold shoulder”, or maybe it is trying to freeze everything so we can start the year off fresh and new.

In the meantime, how are we supposed to protect homes and businesses from potential problems caused by the freezing weather we are experiencing this week? First and foremost, keep your heat on. Sometimes, this is all that is needed, but other times not so much. Open your cabinet doors near the pipes so the heat can reach the pipes and turn your faucets on to a small drip to keep the water flowing.

Now even with these tips, sometimes your water lines will still break. So, what should you do when that happens? Well, you call us. Our crews are IICRC certified in water restoration, as well as other certifications, which means we have been taught by the best in the industry, we know and follow industry standards that your insurance company requires. So trust in the name you know when it comes to your water restoration needs.

Until Next Time,

Your SERVPRO Marketing Gal

Rockstar General Manager

8/24/2020 (Permalink)

Tonya Smith - Rockstar General Manager

Have you met our Rockstar General Manager? Tonya, the definition of an unstoppable female force. It is not too often, at least here in New Mexico, when you come across a woman running a disaster restoration company. She started in the industry in contents, then moved to estimating, marketing, and now the GM. Yeah, you will see some husband and wife owned companies, where the men manage the production side and the women run marketing and the office, but here it is just Tonya. She is the Queen Bee in our eyes.

We are a woman-owned business. Our office is all women, strong, determined, not afraid to get their hands dirty type of women. All led by our fearless leader, Tonya.

Tonya is always willing to help in the field, and jokes about how she has her go bag and PPE bag ready in her car. There truly is nothing stopping this lady. I think that is what makes our company so great. SERVPRO® is already a name most know, but we are a franchised organization, so it is up to each franchise to determine its full potential. Tonya sees that and inspires that in all of us. I think that is what sets us aside from everyone else.

Helping our 4-Legged Customers

8/17/2020 (Permalink)

Zach and Brandy

Recently we were called out to a veterinary clinic in Belen to provide COVID-19 confirmed cleaning services. This family-owned business was depending on us to help get them disinfected and ready for them to re-open. However, there was one little hitch. This vet’s office was also boarding a dog, and the pup could not be in the facility when we completed our final step of fogging with an EPA approved disinfectant. For our conversations, there was no one that could take the dog, Zach, out of the office while we fogged. So, what do you do? Well, Brandy, our marketing gal drove down to Belen, had the crews bring Zach outside to her, and they hung outside while we finished the cleaning process and while the chemicals settled before re-entry. Although we did not have to take this extra step, we were more than willing to help. Of course, Brandy did not show up empty-handed; she came bearing treats. As you can see from the picture, Zach showed his appreciation.

That's Just Who We Are

Certified: SERVPRO Cleaned

Times are definitely different; cleanliness is the new cool thing to do. People are learning how to wash their hands properly, and businesses are continually cleaned to maintain a higher level of cleanliness. Here at SERVPRO® of Rio Rancho and Sandoval County, we’ve seen it all firsthand, as that is the business we are in.

Since the start of the COVID-19 crisis, we have received more calls for cleaning services, whether it is for a proactive clean to a confirmed case clean, meaning someone in the business or a customer of the business has tested positive for COVID-19. We clean all kinds of things, that is just what we do! And honestly, we are glad that we have the means and ability to help. Now we’ve had people ask, “Aren’t you scared you’ll get sick?" Well, people in the restoration industry know what they are getting into when they first get into it. So although we are not necessarily scared, we are extremely cautious. We implemented policies from the very beginning of this to ensure the safety and health of our crews. So our teams are taking the highest level of safety measures not just for themselves, but also for our customers.

"Like it never even happened."®

We have a motto around here, it’s one that the entire company across the nation lives by, "Like it never even happened."® So what does that mean? Can we erase the memory of your home being damaged by water or fire, no, we cannot. However, what we can do is be with you every step of the way. When that initial loss hits, it can feel like you are going through a wave of emotions, somewhat like grieving. For some of us, we’ve have experienced those emotions because no one is exempt from a disaster happening, so we’ll be able to relate first hand with you. So when we say "Like it never even happened,"® what we mean is that we will be there from start to finish. From the initial clean up, dry out, debris removal steps to the very end when the last bit of construction is completed. We want you to walk back into your home when everything is said done, and feel like everything is as back to normal as it can be, "Like it never even happened."®

Selecting a Restoration Company

6/22/2020 (Permalink)

SERVPRO, the Professional Restoration Company

For some communities, there are several options when it comes to selecting a restoration company. It seems as simple as going to Google and picking the first one that comes up on the search. However, just because it is first, does not always mean that it is the best company for you. Understanding that it can be challenging to decide who to go with when a disaster hits, so preparing for the unexpected is often best.

Here are some tips when it comes to choosing the right restoration company for you, whether you have time to plan, or during a disaster.

  1. Call your insurance company to see if they have a preferred company
  2. Ask your friends if they have had to call someone out before
  3. Look at reviews
  4. Look to see what certifications and affiliations are listed on the company website

For commercial buildings:

  1. When calling a restoration company ask them what other commercial clients they have
  2. Ask for references
  3. Find out what their process is
  4. See if they can handle all services needed

It is always best to have a plan, so when disaster strikes, you can feel more at ease knowing you were prepared. Check out our blog on Emergency Ready Plans for more information on preparedness.

There is Hope

Picture of a home on fire at night.

What happens when your smoke detector goes off in the middle of the night? Well, for most of us, we get up, grab the kids and pets, and then evacuate. At that moment, we aren't thinking about our precious positions, the memories saved in the pictures on your wall. At that moment, all we can think about is getting our family out safely.

Then the shock sets in. You are watching your home burn, and it hits you, the realization of what is happening, and you start to think of everything you had to leave inside. The fire department shows up, puts out the fire, the house is boarded up and you either have to stay with a friend, family member or in a hotel.

The next day you arrive on-site with a restoration team. Feeling a little hopeless as you go through your home seeing the destruction from the fire, not knowing there is still hope. The restoration company is telling you how they can save that old chest your grandmother passed down, or they can restore the pictures on the wall.

Here at SERVPRO of Rio Rancho, we are here to walk with you through those times. We can help pack up the house, taking special care that nothing else gets damaged before we start restoring your home to what it was before the fire. We have special equipment to help remove the smell of smoke from the undamaged parts of the house while we work diligently to give you back your home. And when that day comes, we will greet with smiles as we say Welcome Home.

Where can Mold Hide in Homes

5/23/2019 (Permalink)

Mold found behind kitchen cabinet

If you smell a moldy odor but see no signs of mold growth, you may need to hire professionals like SERVPRO® of Rio Rancho/Sandoval County to look for hidden mold. Avoid searching for mold yourself, as you may risk exposure and spread spores. Here are common places where mold multiplies out of sight.

1. Behind Walls

If moisture is present, mold can thrive behind walls where air circulation and exposure are limited. Never attempt to cut holes in the walls to check for mold. Hire a specialist to inspect the area and determine whether you are dealing with moldy drywall or other damaged building materials.

2. In the Attic

Roof leaks can cause mold to grow in an attic. Regularly inspect this area for visible mold on wood or other building materials. These leaks can also cause mold to grow behind walls.

3. Under Laminate Flooring

Concrete foundations can crack and be exposed to moisture from soil that can cause mold growth. Laminate flooring may not breathe adequately to prevent mold from forming.

4. Refrigerator Drip Pans

A drip pan under a refrigerator collects condensation. As these components are seldom cleaned and remain moist with low air circulation and the potential for spilled food to collect, drip pans are prime locations for hidden mold. Clean out drip pans and the floor beneath at least once a year.

5. Air Conditioning Units

Condensation may also cause mold to grow in air conditioning coils, ducts, or drain pans. This is particularly the case if the unit has not been used for a long time. To prevent mold from spreading throughout your home, it is best to have the HVAC system professionally cleaned.

6. Behind Kitchen Cabinets

Why mold is often found in cabinets. Inside your cabinets are two sources of water that can become problematic. One is the water supply lines that service your sink. The other is the drainage pipe that takes the used water from your sink to your main drain that exits your house.

Having a company that can coordinate the whole process from start to finish to make your life easier and gets you back in your home or business faster. “Like it never even happened.”®

SERVPRO® offers a variety of services and are “Faster to Any Size Disaster”

What to Look for in a Restoration Company

When looking for a restoration company in Rio Rancho, there are a number of features you may want to look at including the ability to be “faster to any size disaster”. Choosing the right company for your property's restoration needs can make a difference. Here are some things you may want to consider.

1. The Ability to Deal With Multiple Damage Types

Many professional restoration services like SERVPRO® offer the ability to work with multiple damage types. This is often because one type of damage can lead to another. For example, fire put out by water can also result in mold if the water is left to stand too long. Most restoration companies can help fix smoke and fire damage, water damage, storm damage and also offer mold remediation for this exact reason.

2. A Quick Response Time

Being faster to any size disaster also means arriving with the right materials and equipment required to do the job. Locally owned franchises such as SERVPRO® have locations across the country allowing them to be where they need to be when disaster strikes. Because they are a franchise, they also have access to corporate equipment and materials, which gives them the ability to handle large-scale jobs as well.

3. They Offer a Variety of Services

A restoration company such as SERVPRO® also offer a variety of services designed to help your agent process the insurance claim. These include an electronics inventory service as well as an online database that provides access to information such as photographs and progress reports for the damaged areas, estimates, filed paperwork, and many other details needed for a properly filed claim.

Whether you're choosing a restoration company because they have the ability to be faster to any size disaster, or they can deal with multiple damage types, you may also want to look at the other services they provide. Many companies can help you clean your damaged items as well as the structure and has services they can offer which can make keeping track of the details needed by your insurance provider easier.

Some of the Biggest Problems With Mold in Rio Rancho Result From Delayed Action

3/18/2019 (Permalink)

When you see or smell signs of mold in your home, call SERVPRO® for effective remediation services. Contact us right away to stop the spread.

Why Industry Leading Training Makes SERVPRO® the Choice for Mold Damage Remediation

So you begin to notice a distinctive musty odor in some regions of the house. As you search for the source, you move around furniture in the offending area, and sure enough, there it is mold. The discovery of mold in the home is not uncommon and should not be a cause to panic. We have all heard horror stories of Black mold or infestations that have required thousands of dollars in remodeling work. However, the truth is that in the vast majority of cases, all you have to do is make a simple phone call.

Removing mold damage in Rio Rancho properties does require professional help. Although, it does not often require full-scale mold testing in a laboratory. The visible signs and odors of the mold are enough to pick up the phone and call SERVPRO®. We are one of the leading services for mold restoration because we operate locally and have access to national-level resources.

Why do national resources matter? The answer is simple. Proper mold remediation requires skill and training. SERVPRO® employs technicians that hold IICRC certificates in mold assessment, applied structural drying and mold remediation. These come together to form a three-pronged skillset that is essential to completing a service correctly. Not only that, but we are also available 24 hours a day.

Removing the visible signs of mold is not enough by itself. To fully restore a home, it is necessary to find the source, usually a damp spot or leak that is creating the conditions for mold spores to proliferate. SERVPRO® technicians use their mold assessment training to locate the source and either fix a leaking pipe or use their applied structural drying training to help remove the damage. Without taking this crucial step, the mold can return again and again.

SERVPRO® technicians use their mold remediation certification to ensure the damage is removed and to prevent it from spreading into other areas of the home. Agitation is an effective method, but the nature of it can lead to spores becoming airborne and settling elsewhere. We quarantine the affected area using a physical barrier, like plastic sheeting, or by applying negative air pressure.

All in all, our advanced training helps us to provide a better service to our community here in Albuquerque and the surrounding area.

Having a company that can coordinate the whole process from start to finish to make your life easier and gets you back in your home or business faster. “Like it never even happened.” ®

Did You Know That SERVPRO® Arrives with Equipment to Help Detect Hidden Water in Your Rio Rancho Home?

3/1/2019 (Permalink)

We use advanced moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to detect hidden moisture

Professional Assistance Helps Homeowners Cope with Water Damage

When water spills into a property, it can cause a wide range of damages. Common damages include stains which can form on carpets or other fabrics, while structural components such as drywall can lose their structural integrity becoming weak and soft. Stains can be caused by debris dissolved in the water or rust from metallic items affected by the water. Our IICRC certified restoration services can help you cope with the damages caused by water spillage in your Rio Rancho property.

Most of the specific aspects of water damage can be prevented by extracting the water within a short period. For instance, drywall and other structural components are sturdy enough to withstand exposure to water for some time before severe damages occur. Since our SERVPRO® technicians have sophisticated pumps to extract water immediately we start the restoration process. It is possible to avoid demolition, and instead only use drying equipment to save the affected materials.

When water seeps into wall cavities and reaches the insulation, it can cause the loss of R-value. On your own, the only way to establish the level of damage in these cavities is to tear down the walls. Our SERVPRO® technicians use penetrating moisture meters to gauge the level of penetration before tearing everything down. FLIR thermal cameras also help us establish all moisture problem areas, and especially if we suspect additional leak sources.

Sometimes, and especially if the water leak happens when no one is home, it might not be possible to extract the water immediately. In such cases tear down, and removal of affected materials is the best solution to avoid problems such as mold. Our SERVPRO® crews cut the drywall and insulation 2 feet above the point where the water reaches making it easier to remove all affected materials. We also have enough expertise and tools to remove wet carpets because extended exposure to water can cause carpets to delaminate.

How Is a Fire Extinguished?

Fire suppression focuses on robbing the flames of one or more of these elements. When delivered in huge quantities through a fire hose, water both significantly reduces a fire’s heat and takes away oxygen as it transmutes from liquid to vapor form at extremely high temperatures. Unfortunately, this enormous amount of water also floods buildings and wreaks havoc on its own.

Even with groundbreaking modern methods for quenching a blaze, the most expedient way to kill a fire is with a huge amount of water. That’s why flooding and excess water occurs with most fire damage on your property. This combination is why a restoration professional’s job includes extracting water, soot, odors and smoke from your property along with completing essential repairs.
